In the Ivory Coast, the acuteness of habitat shortage is particularly felt in the cities. This is marked by the growth of slums as can be seen in the urban landscape of Divo. This study contributes to the understanding of the dynamics of habitat in the face of high demand for modern housing in the wake of the near absence of real estate developers in Divo. The findings result from observations, interviews and of household surveys carried out in about a third of the districts of Divo. An analysis of the factors determining the adaptation of the population in its site reveals uncontrolled urban growth, a disorderly urban fabric and an unprecedented rise in house rent. All factors, inimical the resiliency of cities.
